Ridge wins Cassville Invite, Comets finish second

CASSVILLE — The River Ridge varsity volleyball team continued its winning ways with a 3-0 sweep of Potosi last Tuesday night, a 3-0 sweep of Cassville this past Monday, and a first-place finish at Saturday’s Cassville Invite.

Coach Dianne Langmeier’s squad goes into Thursday night’s home match against Benton with a Six Rivers West conference record of 5-1, while the Zephyrs come in at 5-0.

Last Tuesday night against the visiting Chieftains, River Ridge rolled with wins of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-16.

Senior outside hitter Bridgette Myers finished the match with a team-high 14 kills and 10 digs to go along with seven assists.

Freshman Taylor Langmeier added 12 kills, 11 assists and three blocks in the win.

This past Monday evening at Cassville, the Timberwolves took home victories of 25-16, 25-12 and 25-21.

Myers led the team with 16 kills and nine assists, while Langmeier had six kills to go along with 13 assists and two service aces.

Sydney Bloom came up with 13 digs, while Amber Patterson had one solo block.

At Saturday’s Cassville Invite, River Ridge swept Ithaca, Wauzeka and Cassville in two matches each, never losing a set.

In three matches, Myers finished with 38 kills, 20 digs, 14 assists and two blocks, while Bloom had 22 digs and six service aces.

Langmeier contributed four service aces and a team-high 25 assists, while Patterson had five blocks on the day.

Two nights before suffering a 3-0 loss to league-leading Benton, the Cassville varsity volleyball team picked up a 3-1 win over host Shullsburg, and currently sits with a Six Rivers West conference record of 2-4.

Last Tuesday night, the Comets got nine kills from senior Jenna Baliff, and six from fellow senior Bailie Becwar in a 3-1 victory over host Shullsburg.

Becwar also managed 11 digs and 14 assists in Tuesday night’s win, while fellow senior Andrea Okey added 24 digs and four assists. Sophomore Madelyn Nix led the team with two blocks.

Last Thursday night, the Comets were swept in three straight games by visiting Benton, who won by scores of 25-16, 25-18 and 25-21.

While Baliff put down five kills and had two blocks, Becwar added fie kills, eight digs, three service aces and five assists.Okey led the team in digs with 12 and assists with seven.

In their most recent conference match, the Comets were swept by River Ridge, 25-16, 25-12 and 25-21. Becwar finished with a team-high six kills and nine assists to go along with six digs, while Okey had 19 digs and Nix two blocks.

At last Saturday’s Cassville Invite, coach Michelle Becwar’s team finished second to River Ridge, who beat the Comets, 25-23 and 25-17.

Prior to that meeting, the Comets had defeated Wauzeka 2-0 and Ithaca 2-0, finishing 2-1 in match play.

Bailie Becwar put down a team-high 17 kills to go along with six aces and 22 assists, while Baliff added 16 kills and five blocks. Okey contributed 12 kills, 16 assists and a team-high 25 digs, while Payton Brinkman had 16 digs and Machoy Mumm six service aces.

Next Monday night, the Comets will travel to Potosi, then will host Belmont the following Tuesday night.
