MONTICELLO — Five players scored in double figures led by senior Jared Knapp with a career-high 16 points as the visiting Black Hawk Warriors bridled the Monticello Ponies, 67-40, in a Six Rivers East boys’ basketball game held at MHS on Tuesday, Jan. 30.
Knapp came off the bench to sink four of the team’s 10 3-pointers and lead the Warriors (11-5 overall, 5-4) in scoring for the night.
Conner Meyer tallied 15 points and five rebounds, while CJ Leuzinger chipped in with 12 points, five boards and a blocked shot for Black Hawk.
Jett Rufenacht added 11 points, six rebounds and four steals, and Colby Argall provided 10 points, five assists and five steals in the victory.
“It was about the second half defense. We were more active, which led to more steals. Offensively, we really shot the ball well. We moved the ball well and pushed the tempo in the second half more as well. We had 41 pts in the second half, which is a season high for us for points scored in a half,” said Black Hawk head coach Charlie Anderson.
Jon Errthum and Reece Rufer scored 15 points apiece to lead the Ponies (6-9, 3-4).
Monday’s non-conference game at Lancaster was postponed due to the weather. No make-up date was available at press time.
Black Hawk has upcoming SRE games at home against Juda (6-10, 4-5) on Thursday, Feb. 8, and Albany (6-12, 2-7) on Tuesday, Feb. 13. The Warriors also have a non-conference make-up game at Darlington (11-5) on Saturday, Feb. 10, starting with the junior varsity game at 1 p.m. followed by the varsity game around 2:30 p.m.
