Hillmen swimmers split a pair on Senior Night
Iselin
Senior Dan Iselin finished second in the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle at last Tuesdays non-conference triple dual at UWPlatteville, and helped the Hillmen to a pair of second-place finishes in the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay.

PLATTEVILLE — The Platteville/Lancaster boys swim team turned in a number of season-best times during Thursday night’s non-conference triple dual at the UW–Platteville Natatorium.

The Hillmen celebrated Parents Night with a 63–60 victory over La Crosse, but suffered an 84–40 loss to a talented Dubuque Hempstead team.

“The guys swam out of their minds,” said first-year Hillmen head coach Elissa Bahr. “It was a great meet for us. Almost every single individual event was a personal-best time or a season-best time. I am very proud of how the men swam this evening as well as how they treated their competition. They showed great sportsmanship out of the water and were able to put on their game face on when it came to be their event. Dubuque Hempstead and La Crosse Central were phenomenal competitors; it was a pleasure to swim against fine young men."

Seniors Dan Iselin and Nick Demaree led the way Thursday night as the Hillmen (2–2, 1–1 Southern Lakes Conference) turned in five second-place finishes.

Iselin finished second in the 200 medley relay with a new season-best time of 2:16.62, less than three-tenths of a second behind Hempstead’s Jared Restel (2:16.39). Iselin also placed second in the 500 freestyle with a season-best time of 5:28.04. Demaree earned a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 1:05.20.

Iselin and Demaree also teamed up to score a pair of second-place relay finishes. Iselin, Demaree, junior Michael Prestegard and sophomore Trent Julius finished second in the 200 medley relay at 1:55.48. Iselin, Demaree and Prestegard teamed with junior Connor Feyen to place second in the 200 freestyle relay at 1:41.84.

The Hillmen will now have a two-week break in competition. They will return to action Thursday, Jan. 5 with a Southern Lakes Conference triple dual at Elkhorn.

The Platteville co-op opened Southern Lakes action with a split at last Tuesday’s SLC triple dual at Whitewater.
Coach Elissa Bahr’s Hillmen defeated Jefferson/Cambridge 80–74, but suffered a narrow 83–73 defeated against the Whippets.

“The men swam very well, and even though we switched things up and placed people in different events from what they were used to, they held their own against the competition,” said Bahr. “We saw many personal best times last night and I am very pleased with how they did as a team.”

The 200-yard medley relay team of Michael Prestegard, Trent Julius, Dan Iselin, and Connor Feyen placed first with a time of 1:58.15. Iselin also finished first in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.42) as did fellow senior Nick Demaree in the 200 individual medley (2:28.79).

The Hillmen also combined to swim to four second-place finishes, including the 400 free relay of Demaree, Iselin, Trent Julius and Tyler Moss (3:52.76), Demaree in the 100 freestyle (58.24),  junior Michael Prestegard in the 100 backstroke (1:07.79) and Julius in the 100 breaststroke (1:21.37).
