Platteville press punishes Panthers
pla gbb donovan
Plattevilles Laura Donovan gets around IowaGrant senior Jackie Olson (22) during last Tuesdays 6132 victory over the Panthers.

For eight minutes visiting Iowa–Grant traded scores with the bigger, fast Platteville Hillmen.
In the end, though, Platteville’s tenacious full-court pressure wore down the Panthers and turned a two-point game at the end of one quarter into a 61–32 rout.
Platteville forced 29 turnovers in the game, including 22 in the first half.
Freshman Haley Yelinek scored four points in the first quarter and Jackie Olson and Carly Richards added three each to keep I–G withing striking distance at 14–12, but the Platteville flood gates opened in the second quarter.
The Hillmen (3–0) scored the first 20 points of the second quarter and held I–G without a point for nearly eight minutes.
The Panthers only points of the second quarter were a pair of Grace Enloe free throws with 1:20 left in the period.
Eight different Platteville players scored in the win. Senior Julia Lawinger and sophomore Cassie Hamer finished with 12 points each, and senior Laura Donovan added 10.
Saturday Platteville outscored Mauston 8–2 in overtime to pull out a 55–49 non-conference win over Mauston at Just A Game Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells.
Lawinger scored a game-high 22 points in the win. Junior forward Elisa Bilderback added 14 in the win.
Platteville will open SWC play Thursday at home against River Valley, before hosting Mount Horeb in a non-conference game on Monday.
Friday night Iowa–Grant fell to 0–2 on the season with a 49–34 loss to Boscobel in the SWAL opener for both teams.
I–G was within six points in the third quarter, 28–22, but behind the 19-point effort from senior Lachen Esters the Bulldogs closed the game on a 21–12 run.
The Panthers return to action Thursday at Riverdale. They will then host Southwestern on Tuesday.
