Plattevilles Brelynn Updike set a new school record Saturday, breaking her own mark set a week earlier in Janesville. Updike finished sixth out of 151 runners at Saturdays Dick McKichan Platteville Invitational with a time of 20:03.1.

PLATTEVILLE — Platteville’s front runners keep raising the bar. Saturday was no exception for seniors Dan Iselin and Brelynn Updike, who both turned in record-breaking performances at the 49th annual Dick McKichan Platteville Invitational.

Iselin blazed to a third-place finish in a Platteville Invite team record time of 16:08.06. It was also the fastest time ever clocked by a Hillmen runner on Platteville soil. Sophomore Jace Serres also medaled for the Platteville boys, finishing sixth out of 156 participants with a time of 16:36 as the Hillmen finished fourth with 111 points in the large schools division, behind Monroe (46), Dodgeville/Mineral Point (62) and McFarland (86).

Updike broke her own school record, set just a week earlier at Janesville, with a new record time of 20:03.1 to place sixth out of 151 runners in the girls’ varsity race to lead the Platteville girls (115) to a third-place team finish behind Wisconsin Dells (43) and Dodge–Point (81).

Junior Morgan Wehnke and senior Sami Brookens both ribboned with top-35 finishes. Wehnke placed 21st at 20:38, while Brookens finished 34th at 21:04.

"I saw courage, I saw grit, I saw a team with a mission,” said Hillmen head coach Rob Serres. “We have more ahead of us, and we will continue to focus in on what we need to do.”

Platteville will compete in the Albany Invitational Saturday in one final tune up before the SWC championship meet on Oct. 13 at River Valley.

Panthers compete at Platteville Invitational

The Iowa–Grant/Highland boys placed ninth in the boys’ small school division. Senior Will McLeer returned from an Achilles injury to lead the Panthers with a 95th place finish at 19:16.0.

Sophomore Liz Biddick finished 134th (25:21.6) to pace the I–G girls, who had an incomplete team.

Last Thursday Paul Connolly (6th, 19:26.7) and Easton Dobson (8th, 19:27.52) each medaled with top-10 performances at the Kickapoo/La Farge Invitational.
