    LA CROSSE — Belmont sophomore Isaac Wiegel went 5-3 at last week’s two-day Bi-State Classic at the La Crosse Civic Center to place 10th out of 47 wrestlers at 106 pounds.
    Wiegel (17-5), who won back-to-back tournaments at 113 pounds at Black Hawk and Richland Center earlier in December, dropped down to 106 for last week’s 57-team tournament.
    Wiegel opened the tournament with a forfeit victory then defeated Holmen’s Trevor Plomedahl, 7-1, before suffering a third-round, 5-0 loss to eventual champion Jon Bailey (19-2) of Sparta.
    Wiegel bounced back with a 12-0 major decision over Viroqua’s Jansen McClelland in the consolation bracket.
    After a 4-3 consolation loss to Luxemburg–Casco’s Bryce Bosman, Wiegel defeated Xavier Judge, 9-1, to reach the ninth-place match.
    Wiegel’s tournament ended with a 1-0 loss to Ellsworth’s Matthew Peterson on Wednesday afternoon.
    Josh Taber (3-11) was the only other Brave to earn a victory at Bi-State. He picked up a forfeit victory and finished 1-2 at 132 pounds.
    Alex Sargent (126 pounds), Jacob Niehaus (138), Tristan Prater (145), Alexander Sonsalla (160) and Grey Genzoli (170) each went 0-2.
    Belmont/Platteville scored 21 teams points and placed 18th out of 19 teams in Division 2.
    The Braves will return to action Thursday, Jan. 7, with a Southwest Wisconsin Conference dual at Lancaster.
