Man dies when motorcycle was struck

The Grant County Coroner takes an image at the scene of a motorcycle/car collision on STH 129 outside of Lancaster. The accident claimed the life of John Pagel, Fennimore.

A Fennimore man was killed when his motorcycle was struck by a car as he was riding along STH 129 outside of Lancaster Thursday morning.

At approximately 11:11 a.m., John Pagel, 57 was heading south on his motorcycle, following a semi. As he came to the intersection with Lincoln Avenue, a vehicle being driven by Gerald Stark, 69, Sycamore, Ill. was traveling east, and Stark did not stop at the stop sign. 

Stark's vehicle entered the intersection into the path of Pagel's motorcycle, causing Pagel to strike his vehicle. Pagel was ejected from the motorcycle and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Grant County Coroner Ron Sturmer.

Stark and his passenger were transported to Grant Regional Health Center for treatment of minor injuries. Pagel was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

This crash remains under investigation. The Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Lancaster Police Department, Lancaster Fire Department, Lancaster EMS, Bennett’s Mobile and Collision Specialists of Fennimore.
