Belmont is Gifted and Talented in math

BELMONT — On Nov. 17 four fifth-grade and four sixth-grade students traveled to Fennimore to compete in the fifth and sixth grade Gifted and Talented Math Competition.

Twelve teams participated — Belmont, Benton, Cuba City, Highland, Ithaca, Iowa–Grant, Lancaster, Mineral Point, Platteville, Potosi, Richland Center and Weston. Ninety-six students participated in Mental Math, Written Math and Group Math.

Belmont fifth-graders who competed were Michael Douglas, Logan Kramer, Brayden Dailey and Makenna Travis. Belmont sixth-graders who competed were McKenzie Reuter, Lizzy Haag, Kolton Westemeier, and Zach Mester.

Westemeier placed second in Written Math, and Reuter placed third in Written Math. Mester placed first in Mental Math and third in Written Math and first overall.
