Over 500 years of experience retires

In a span of just a few minutes over the previous two Platteville School Board meetings, the Platteville School District lost a combined 513 years of service for soon-to-be retired teachers and staff.
The board accepted the resignations of 19 employees between its March 26 and April 9 meetings.
Among those to offer their resignation were:
• Tom Caccia, who taught technology education at the middle and high school for 32 years. He has also been the high school boys and girls swim team head coach, high school assistant track coach, middle school track coach, and has been the high school photography advisor.
• Melody Newmann. She has been a speech/language clinician for the district for the past 25 years and has provided services to many students in each of the district's buildings.
• Roxanne Sundin. She taught science in the district for 23 years. She has also been involved with Foreign Cultures, Science World, Science Olympiad, and Creative Problem Solving.
• Judy Soles. She taught in the district for 22 years. She began her teaching career with elementary students and then moved to the middle school to teach 8th grade Englsih. She has also been involved with summer school, student council and the spelling bee.
• Catherine Droessler, who has been a speech/language clinician for the district for 33 years. She has provided services to many students in the schools.
• Connie Loeffelholz, who has been with the district for 22 years. She began her career as a special education teaching assistant at the elementary and middle school levels. She later accepted the position as the library assistant at Westview Elementary School.
• Denise Rostad. She has been with the district for 28 years. She has been an elementary teacher at O.E. Gray, Neal Wilkins and Westview.
• Janet Roper, who has been with the district for 34 years. She taught 5th grade social studies, science, personal development, technology, and has also recently taught summer school at the middle school.
• Carla Flesch. She has been in the district for 32 years. She taught 4th-6th grade special education, Read 180, and has served as a student council advisor.
• Mark Schell. He has 37 years with the district. He taught 4th grade at Westview and most recently at the middle school. He has volunteered for numerous activities, such as the 4th grade ski trip, Westview Winterfest, and outdoor education, among others.
• Dianne Edgette, who has spent 36 years with the district. She is a special education teacher and most recently taught summer school at the middle school.
• Eileen McCartney, who spent 19 years with the district. She is a physical education teacher and has coached high school and middle school sports.
• Gary Munson, who spent 23 years with the district. He taught 3rd grade at Westview and Neal Wilkins and 4th grade at Westview and the middle school. He has also been a key organizer for the school playground projects.
• Jan Baker, who spent 25 years with the district. She worked as the district media coordinator and has served on many boards and committees in her professional area. She was also the advisor for the Young Writer's Club at the middle school.
• Cindy Clark, who spent 23 years with the district. She taught 5th grade as well as 6th and 7th grade special education classes in previous years. She has been the 5th grade play director and has taught summer school for several years.
• Sara Klinge. She was with the district for 32 years. She taught Spanish at the middle/high school. She was also the National Honor Society advisor and has been involved with cheerleading and pep club.
• Michael Hahn. He was with the district for 34 years. He taught special education at the high school. He has been involved with a special education mentoring program with the area schools.
• Gary Prohaska, who has been a custodian in the district for 29 years. He began his career as a middle school custodian and then moved to Westview.
• Kurt Olsen, who spent the previous four years as a 7th grade math teacher.
In addition, Denise Huser submitted her resignation from her Science Olympiad advisor position.
