You could call Rick McQuillan the Traveling Mailman, or, more specifically, the Traveling OCI—Officer in Charge.

Rick retired last Tuesday—or, more specifically for the Vietnam War Army Veteran—21November at 11:30 after 37 years with the United States Postal Service. During that time he served in 64 different Post Offices in Southern Wisconsin, beginning as a carrier in Boscobel in 1981.

McQuillan retires as the Boscobel Postmaster, but has had stints as an OCI in Cobb, Muscoda, Dodgeville, Lancaster, Stoughton and Platteville—twice. He also served as the Postmaster in Cobb, Lancaster, Prairie du Chien, and finally, Boscobel, beginning in 2013.

For those unfamiliar with the term OCI, that’s the person who’s in charge until a new, full-time Postmaster is hired. In Boscobel, that person is now Lisa Couey.
