Girls 4x800 relay wins gold medal at Cardinal Invite

NECEDAH — The quartet of Lydia Benish, Adriana Reese, Michaela Bach and Macey Brown turned in a gold medal performance to lead the Hillsboro girls to a fourth-place finish at last Tuesday’s Necedah Cardinal Invitational.

The quartet won the girls’ 4x800 relay in 11:43.58 to score 10 of the Tigers’ 62 team points.

Morgan Huntley  finished third in the shot put (31–5) and sixth in the discus (75–6).

Belinda Griffin placed third in the 200 (29.75 seconds) and fourth in the 100-meter-dash (14.35).

Hillsboro’s 4x200 relay of Griffin, Brown, Bach and April Thornsen earned a bronze medal with a third-place time of 2:02.06.

Brown, Benish, Carly Krajco and Courtney Fanta placed fourth in the 4x100 relay (1:01.78).

Benish also finished fourth in the 3,200 with a time of 15:50.34.

Brookwood scored 190 points to win the girls’ team title. Bangor finished second with 148 points.

Hillsboro scored 39 points to place sixth in the boys’ competition.

Bangor scored 164 points to win the boys’ title. Brookwood scored 148 to finish second.

Drew Bisarek turned in the Tigers’ top individual performance with a third-place finish in the 3,200 (12:25.27).

Bisarek, Zach O’Hair, Skyler Fisher and Paul-Andrew Griffin finished fourth in the 4x800 relay (9:59.69).

The Tigers competed at the Royall Scenic Bluffs meet on Friday, but individual results were not available.

The Hillsboro boys scored 65 points and placed third out of five teams.

The Hillsboro girls also finished third out of five teams with 62 points.

Hillsboro was scheduled to take part in the Bangor Invitational on Tuesday before hosting the Tiger Invitational today. The Tigers will then travel to the Viroqua Invitational on Monday.
