Haas leads Lady Tigers to third at Brookwood Invite

ONTARIO — The Hillsboro girls’ cross country team finished third out of eight teams at Saturday’s Brookwood Invitational.

Freshman Annie Haas led the Lady Tigers’ pack, finishing ninth of 77 runners in the girls’ varsity race with a time of 23:09.4 on the 5,000-meter course.

Senior Adriana Reese finished 27th at 26:31.7.

The pack of seniors Shauna Parish (27:51.7) and Michaela Bach (28:16.0), and junior Destiny Shore (28:20.4) finished 33rd, 37th and 38th for Hillsboro.

Senior Macey Brown placed 48th at 29:43.4 and sophomore Kelly rounded out the Tigers’ varsity lineup by placing 59th in 23:14.1.

Westby placed seven runners in the top 10 to easily win the girls’ title with 20 points.

Freshman Elena Schmidt was the girls’ overall winner in 22:29.0, while senior teammate Becca Maxwell finished second at 22:48.0.

Host Brookwood finished as a team with 62 points, while Hillsboro was third at 115.

Brookwood won the boys’ race with 31 points, followed by Westby (63) and the West Central Homeschools team (130). Hillsboro finished sixth out of 10 qualifying teams with 173 points.

Riverdale sophomore Brian Mathews was the boys’ individual champion with a time of 18:26.9, more 36 seconds better than runner-up Spencer Oftedahl of Westby (19:02.6).

Sophomore Zach O’Hair led the Hillsboro boys finishing 16th (21:29.2).

Senior Avery Rueckheim placed 28th at 22:16.5, and junior Skyler Fisher finished 34th at 22:43.5.

Hillsboro traveled to Holmen on Tuesday and will next take part in the Fennimore Invitational on Saturday.
