North Crawford cross country team has talent

NORTH CRAWFORD - The North Crawford cross country teams are well underway with the season and traveled to Westby on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Wisconsin Dells won the meet on the girls side and Brookwood won on the boys side.

Individual winners were Hayden Frederickson from Westby on the boys side with a time of 16:30 for the 3.1 mile course and Laura Beghin from Wisconsin Dells for the girls with a time of 18:49 for the same 3.1 mile course.

For the North Crawford runners, freshman Helen Carstens was the first to cross the line in a time of 20:07, good enough for fourth place out of a field of 116 competitors. Other girls finishing were: Katie Schellhorn – 90th – 26:24, Sara Martinez – 104th – 28:50 and Grace Corlis – 107th – 29:26.

For the boys, Dominic Carstens was first to finish for North Crawford in 35th place in a career best time of 19:14, followed by teammate junior Gavin Forkash in a career best time of 19:39, good enough for 43rd place. Next was Liam O'Brien in 100th place in a time of 22:19. Dylan Heisz was 115th in a time of 31:04.

"This was a very tough course so for the kids to set personal records is quite an accomplishment,” coach Mike Allbaugh said after the meet. “We are battling some team injuries right now, so hopefully we get healthy and are able to compete as a team."
