MUSCODA — With near perfect conditions for morning race, 14 of Hillsboro’s 17 runners set a new personal best at Saturday’s Riverdale Invitational.
Senior Avery Rueckheim turned in a new personal-best time of 19:07.8 to finish 10th overall out of 50 runners in the boys’ varsity race and lead the Tigers for the first time in his career.
“Avery is our senior captain and he very much deserves the recognition,” said Hillsboro head coach Ben Leis. “He ran a great race.”
Sophomore Zach O’Hair finished 11th at 19:11.6, followed by Skyler Fisher (19th, 19:56.1), Drew Bisarek (28th, 21:07.9) and Mitch Beckwith (34th, 22:06.8).
The Hillsboro boys finished fourth with a 86 points, behind Rivedale (36), Kickapoo/La Farge (70) and Fennimore (78).
Meanwhile, the Hillsboro girls finished second in a very tight race, two points back of champion River Valley (41).
“It would have been nice to have won the meet, but hopefully it leaves the girls hungry for the upcoming conference meet,” said Leis. “The the closest we have finished to Brookwood all year is 19 points, but we’re going to give it our best shot come Thursday.”
Freshman Annie Haas finished third out of 43 runners in the girls’ varsity race with a time of 20:50.5.
Senior Adriana Reese finished ninth at 21:57.8. Senior Shauna Parish finished 11th 22:00.2 and senior Michaela Bach was 17th at 23:51.9. Fellow senior Macey Brown was 18th at 24:56.8.
The Tigers will travel to New Lisbon for the Scenic Bluffs Conference Championships.
