Tigers are Royall-ly pinned in conference opener

Hillsboro opened Scenic Bluffs wrestling action with a 50–30 loss to visiting Royall last Thursday night.

Royall (1–0 SBC) won eight of the 10 contested matches, including six by pin to run away with a 20-point win.

The dual was only close because the Panthers surrendered forfeits at 106, 113 and 132 pounds.

Gunner Juresh (120), Connor Gates (126), Kevin Sugden (138), Joey Sugden (152), Austin Johnson (170) and Matthew Preuss (285) all recorded pins for Royall.

Trenton Pasch scored a 12–1 major decision of Hillsboro freshman Jacob Urban at 160 pounds, and Noah Friedel notched a 12–4 major decision over Hillsboro’s Sebastion Miller at 182.

Royall also picked up a forfeit victory at 195 pounds.

Freshman Tyler Benish pinned Joey Sugden at 145 pounds to score Hillsboro’s first victory on the mat.

Junior Jacob Benish was the Tigers’ only other winner, scoring a second-period pin of Samual Guilfoil at 220 pounds.

Hillsboro (0–1 SBC) will return to action with a conference dual at defending Scenic Bluffs duals champion Cashton tonight. Coach Snapper Verbsky’s Tigers will also compete in the Richland Center Invitational on Saturday.
