Tigers new faces see first mat time at Royall
Hillsboro finishes 10th out of 13 teams

 A new crop of Hillsboro freshmen saw their first varsity wrestling action at Saturday’s Royall Invitational.

Twelve Tigers, six of them freshman, took part in Saturday’s tournament and finished with mixed results.

Freshman Jason Griffiths went 3–1 and finished third at 106 pounds,

He pinned Madison East’s Trevor Starr before being pinned by Viroqua’s Jansen McClelland. But Griffiths bounced back with a consolation bye before once again pinning Starr in the third-place match.

Sophomore Braden Voltz went 2–2 and placed fourth at 285 pounds.

Voltz opened the season with a loss to Madison East’s Mike Dunlap, but used a bye and a forfeit victory over Kickapoo/La Farge’s Sam Peterson to reach the third-place match, where he was pinned by Mauston’s Jimmy Seeley.

Freshman Jacob Urban picked up a pair of pins, but did not place at 160 pounds.

Freshman Dakota Wells went 1–2 with a pin at 113 pounds.

Junior Nolan Hammer also went 1–2 with a pin at 170, as did senior Sebastian Miller at 182.

Mitchell Morris (120), Riley Bolden (126), Mitch Beckwith (132), Tyler Benish (138), Keegan Martin (145) and Jacob Benish (220) all went 0–2 to open the season.

Hillsboro scored 45 team points and placed 10th out of 13 teams.

Mauston scored 213.5 points to win the team title. Wisconsin Dells finished second with 152 points.

Hillsboro will host Royall in its first Scenic Bluffs dual of the season Friday night.
