BOSCOBEL - The Boscobel Cross Country teams traveled to Fennimore on a beautiful cool autumn evening last Thursday to compete in the conference championships.

Both the girls’ and boys’ teams placed third in the competition with Albany, Darlington, Fennimore, Pecatonica/Argyle, Southwestern/Benton/Cuba City, Iowa-Grant/Highland, and Riverdale.

Three Boscobel runners finished within the top ten of races - Mackenzie Kauffman (sixth, 21:05.3), Jordan Molzof (seventh, 17:55.8), and Grace Glasbrenner (10th, 21:49.6).

“Our conference is absolutely loaded,” said Coach Skyler Reynolds. “There are three ranked boys teams and three ranked girls teams in the current Division 3 rankings. It’s like a mini-state meet when you have that many good runners and teams. For some of our runners it was the final race of the season and for others it was a warm-up for the sectional meet, which is in Fennimore on Saturday.

“I was so proud of our kids to battle like they did on Thursday and fight for every spot. A lot of them finished their season on such a strong note, it was just great to see all of the hard work pay off. The junior varsity girls were conference champions and the boys were runner up. This was a really big accomplishment. We learned some good lessons, toured the course, and most importantly the kids are geared up to get back there in a week.

“I’ve said this a few times, but these kids don’t seem concerned with individual successes. It’s all about the team, all the way down the line. It doesn’t matter who you are – every kid contributes something. That’s when sports become very fun to be a part of, and when that’s when you are going to find success.

“I am very thankful for this group, and all the extra time the leaders and upperclassmen have put in.”

The Bulldogs will head back to Fennimore on Saturday, Oct. 22 for WIAA Division 3 sectional #6 competition against Albany, Belleville, Cassville, Darlington, Fennimore, Iowa-Grant, Kickapoo/LaFarge, Lancaster, Madison Country Day/Abundant Life Christian, Marshall, New Glarus/Monticello, North Crawford, Parkview, Pecatonica/Argyle, Riverdale, Saint Ambrose, Waterloo, Wauzeka-Steuben, and Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld.

Competition begins at 11 a.m. for the boys’ teams and 12 p.m. for the girls’ teams.

Those who advance to state will head to the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday, Oct. 29.
