MUSCODA - Riverdale traveled to face the Golden Eagles Tuesday, September 20.

Riverdale had this match on our radar for quite some time. Both Riverdale and Fennimore were looking for their first Conference win of the year. Riverdale played very tight and unfortunately Fennimore was able to get that win in three games, 20-25, 18-25 and 31-33.

Riverdale struggled on the offensive side of the ball. Service front row errors in attacking and blocking gave Fennimore the advantage in this match. Riverdale fought hard in an extended third game but came up short in a 31-33.

We will be looking forward to the rematch with this team on October 11 for parents and senior night.

Statistical Leaders:

Blocks: Tatum Johnson – 1, Ryenna Daly – 1

Both Junior Varsity and Varsity Reserve fell to the Golden Eagles 2 games to 1.

Vs. Southwestern

Riverdale looked to rebound from a disappointing outing on Thursday, Sept. 22 against the Southwestern Wildcats in front of a very energetic Homecoming Crowd. Overall Riverdale played much better versus a top ten Division 4 ranked team. Riverdale came out fired up and got up early in the match. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to stay up and Southwestern defeated Riverdale, 18-25, 17-25 and 14-25.

Riverdale played together and greatly improved our shortcomings from the game earlier in the week. Our front row really improved their play this game. Our attacking and blocking was much more on point. We played together and there was good energy and communication. These are all steps in the right direction. We plan on building on it for the rest of the season.

Statistic Leaders:

Kills: Tatum Johnson – 4, Macey Klebesadel – 4

Assists: Callie Arellano – 7, Macy Mau – 4

Digs: Shay Louis – 7, Quinn Fitzgerald -6

Blocks: Macey Klebesadel – 4, Tatum Johnson – 2

The Junior Varsity was able to take one game from Southwestern but fell to 1 game to 2, and the Varsity Reserve fell to the Wildcats 0 games to 3.

Riverdale will be on the road for the next few weeks. They were at Iowa Grant on September 27 and head to Mineral Point on Tuesday, October 4. All of Riverdale will be busy on Saturday, October 1. Varsity will be at Wisconsin Heights, and the Junior Varsity and Varsity Reserve will combine to compete at a tournament in Belmont. Junior Varsity and Varsity Reserve will host a tournament on Monday, October 3.
