PLATTEVILLE — Platteville’s team depth was on full display at Saturday’s 27th annual Dick McKichan Platteville Invitational.

Senior Alex Traxler entered the tournament as Platteville’s four man, but shot a career-best 7-over-par 78 to finish second individually and lead the loaded Hillmen to the Division 1 team title.

The host Hillmen won three individual honors and had five golfers finish in the top nine individually. Platteville’s 323 team total blew away the field. River Valley finished a distant second with a 375. Mineral Point won the Division 2 team title with a combined score of 376.

It was Traxler’s first round under 80 for the second-team All-Southwest Wisconsin Conference performer, who finished 12th in last year’s individual SWC standings. Traxler easily won the 4-man medalist honors by 13 strokes over Barneveld’s Owen Pechan.

Sophomore Isaiah Altfillisch, a first-team All-SWC performer a year ago, won the 5-man individual title with an 80. Altfillish tied for third overall. Junior Ethan Suits shot an 82 to win 3-man medalist honors by a stroke over Mineral Point’s Simon Mitchell. Suits finished eighth overall.

Sophomore Cade Rohrbach, Platteville’s number one man, tied for ninth with an 83. Junior Zach White shot a non-counting 90 and finished second in the 2-man competition behind Richland Center’s Nolan Moore. White placed 17th overall out 68 golfers.

River Valley’s Derek Wedige won overall medalist honors with a 3-over-par 74.

Iowa–Grant junior Brady Peat shot a 9-over-par 80 to tie Platteville’ s Altfillisch for third overall. I–G senior Chad Thomas shot a 95, but the Panthers had an incomplete team with just two golfers.

I–G shot a combined 206 to place seventh out of eight teams at last Thursday’s Southwestern SWAL mini meet at the Galena Golf Course. It was the first of eight regular season meets that will determine this year’s SWAL champion. Peat shot a 5-over-par 41 to share medalist honors with Mineral Point’s Kaleb Pilling, Barneveld’s Seth Adelman and Argyle/Pecatonica’s Matt Amorose.

Hillmen finish fifth at Genena National Invite

LAKE GEVENA — Monday, Platteville shot a combined 343 to place fifth out of 24 teams at the loaded Geneva National Invitational.
