TEN YEARS AGO

NOVEMBER 26, 2009 – Dr. Richard Dudgeon and Dr. Steve Anderson of Apple Valley Vet Clinic performed emergency surgery on Anne, a German Shepherd whose owner is Nam Song of Readstown. Anne was shot through the abdomen with an arrow on the morning of November 3. The surgery was a success and saved Anne’s life. A note to hunters, please watch closely when you are hunting to avoid any injury.

TWENTY YEARS AGO

NOVEMBER 26, 1999 – North Crawford football players who received awards were Michael Duke, all conference second team lineman offense; Dustin Byl, lineman of the year; Brian Swiggum, defensive player of the year and all conference second team linebacker; Lee Miller, offensive player of the year and all conference second team back; Ben Quamme, most improved and all-conference second team offense and second team lineman end.

THIRTY YEARS AGO

NOVEMBER 30, 1989 – Soldiers Grove businessman John Young was the winner of the annual ‘Spirit of Giving’ Award from State Representative DuWayne Johnsrud for volunteerism…Five generations gathered recently to help Marie Devenport celebrate her 100thbirthday at Sannes Skogdalen. Present for the photo is great-great granddaughter Shannon Marie Anderson, daughter Margaret Nederlo, great-grandson Olin Anderson and granddaughter Ellen Boom.

FORTY YEARS AGO

NOVEMBER 26, 1979 – Harry Mills, Route 2, Gays Mills is pictured with his impressive pile of split wood for his winter supply. There are 27 pickup loads in the pile. Mills had his woodlot logged and then sawed and split the firewood himself… A five-and-a-half-hour power outage experienced by Wisconsin Power & Light customers in Crawford County on November 20 and 21 was caused by a wire from an old transmission line blowing onto one of the new transmission lines and grounding it.

FIFTY YEARS AGO

NOVEMBER 27, 1969 – Recipient of the Carol Award from the Prairie du Chien Jaycettes is Mrs. Joie Skarda of Soldiers Grove, mother of three boys. She was cited as being an outstanding mother and it was announced that she would compete on a state level with another Wisconsin woman… First Lieutenant Dennis Schoville, son of Arnold Schoville of Madison, was seriously injured on Veteran’s Day while serving in Vietnam. The family has been informed that he will soon be returning to Great Lakes for further treatment.

SIXTY YEARS AGO

NOVEMBER 26, 1959 – Laurel George, Soldiers Grove, had his party permit and buck tag both filled by 10:30 Saturday morning, November 14. He was hunting at Grandview, east of Drummond. Gary and Richard George filled their party permits near Phillips… The cast of ‘The Incompleted Pass’ Gays Mills High School Junior–Senior class play, is pictured practicing one scene from the three-act comedy by Patricia Clapp. Under the direction of English instructor Mrs. James Kegel, the play was presented in the Community Building. The cast: Mary Lou Jurgensen, Mary Larson, Julie Oppriecht and Judy Burkum, Mike McCormick, Terry Beatty and Lee Haggerty.
