The pastors of Platteville’s two ELCA Lutheran churches are among 11 candidates to become bishop of the ELCA south-central Wisconsin synod.

Rev. Michael Short of First English Lutheran Church and Rev. Jeff Pedersen of Lutheran Church of Peace are two of the candidates to lead the synod, which includes Evangelical Lutheran Church in America churches in Grant, Lafayette, Iowa and nine other southern Wisconsin counties.

The 145 south-central synod churches will send representatives to a special assembly in Madison Sept. 27–28 to elect their new bishop. The bishop will replace Bruce Burnside, whose six-year term as bishop ended June 30.
