Building Platteville plans planters back on Main Street

Building Platteville, Inc. has recently completed assisting with the fundraising for the Rountree Branch Trial and has already begun a new project for the community.

Kathy Kopp, president of the group said “there are many areas of the community that could use sprucing up and some extra attention” so Building Platteville is now looking at funding community beautification projects.

The first project is to ensure that the hanging flower baskets on Main Street, missing in 2014, are part of the streetscape again. “Our downtown needs some color,” said board member Dorothy Genthe.

Cushman’s Greenhouse in Belmont is working with the group. The plants were started several weeks ago and the baskets may be matured enough to be hung by Memorial Day. Other projects may include such things as additional holiday lighting or possibly new street banners.

Fidelity Bank will be hosting a brat sale Friday, May 22 at 11 a.m. with proceeds going to the hanging flower baskets. To make a donation to the Main Street flower baskets or to any other community beautification project, send your check to Building Platteville, Inc., P. O. Box 119, Platteville, WI  53818.
