Cashton youth injured in one-vehicle crash

A rural Cashton teenager suffered a leg injury Aug. 21 in a one-vehicle accident in Coon township.

Lewis Gameson, 17, was taken by Tri-State Ambulance to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse following the accident, which occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Dodson Hollow Road just west of Zitzman Lane.

According the to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office in Viroqua, Gameson failed to negotiate a turn and continued straight off of the road. His vehicle continued down a steep embankment before striking a tree and coming to rest. Gameson got out of the vehicle and began walking toward the nearest house for help.

He was not wearing his seatbelt, and both airbags were deployed in the vehicle.

The Vernon County Broadcaster of Viroqua reported that Gameson was in good condition at Vernon Memorial as of Aug. 22.

Also assisting at the scene were the Coon Valley First Responders, and the Coon Valley Fire Department.

The accident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
