Four face felonies in April 5 downtown shootings

Four Platteville people arrested in connection with shootings of downtown buildings April 5 all face felony charges in Grant County Circuit Court.

Dillon Joe Potts, 18, 906 W. Madison St., faces two counts of felony bail jumping, one count of driving or operating a vehicle without owner consent, and one count of operating a vehicle without owner consent — passenger.

A status conference on Potts’ charges is set for June 5, with trial set for June 18. He faces maximum sentences of 16 years three months in prison and $40,000 in fines if convicted.

Danny C. Mabra, 21, 66 E. Main St. #3, faces charges of felony damage to property, driving or operating a vehicle without owner consent, and operating a vehicle without owner consent — passenger.

A status conference on the operating without owner consent charges is set for June 5, with trial set for June 18.

Brandi L. Wentz, 27, 180 N. Hickory St. apartment B, faces charges of felony damage to property, operating a vehicle without owner consent — passenger, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A status conference on Wentz’s charges is set for July 2, with the trial set for July 23. She faces a maximum sentence of 3½ years in prison and a $10,000 fine on the felony damage charge.

Terran M. Wilkinson, 17, 685 N. Water St., faces a charge of driving or operating a vehicle without owner consent, and operating a vehicle without owner consent — passenger,

A status conference on the charges is set for June 5, with trial set for June 18. Wilkinson faces a maximum sentence of 3½ years in prison and a $10,000 fine on the driving charge.

Potts, Mabra and Wentz were arrested followed a complaint about shots fired into the windows at Kopp McKichan Geyer Skemp, 44 E. Main St. The caller to police reported the shots were coming from an apartment across the street.
Police found other businesses that had been damaged by what appeared to be BB gun shots. Some businesses reported the damage to police, and other damage was found by officers, police said.

While police were investigating the shooting, officers discovered a stolen van in a nearby parking lot, which was reported stolen the previous night by Dubuque police. A search of one of the suspects revealed a key that belonged to the van, police said.

Dubuque police found a car that had been stolen from Platteville, but not yet reported to police, in Dubuque near where the van was stolen. Police said the suspects found the car with the keys in it, drove it to Dubuque, but couldn’t get it started after they stopped in Dubuque. The suspects left the stolen car in Dubuque and took the stolen van back to Platteville, according to Platteville police.
