The Grant County Sheriff’s Department secured a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the National Sheriff’s Association to conduct seat belt education and enforcement through November.
The department will be conducting specific enforcement patrols, developing public service announcements on the importance of seat belt use, doing presentations to teenage drivers, and providing information to the community at events.
The department was required to develop its own slogan, which is “Saving Lives in Grant County: Buckle Up!”
“One of the areas we identified are those drivers who are taking short trips around the county and oftentimes don’t think they need to buckle up or they forget to buckle up,” said Sheriff Nate Dreckman. “It is these drivers we hope to make an impact with, as it is documented that three out of four crashes occur within 25 miles of your home.”
