Six get probation on marijuana charges

Six of the defendants in the May 2 Platteville drug raid were placed on probation after they pleaded to charges in Grant County Circuit Court in Lancaster.

Michael J. DePons, 385 W. Pine St., 21, was placed July 30 on two years probation after he pleaded guilty July 17 to one count of manufacture or delivery of THC. The other two counts DePons faced were dismissed.

DePons’ probation term includes serving 60 days in jail, paying $878 in court costs, and undergoing random drug testing. He is also required to pay the money for the drug purchase to the Richland–Grant–Iowa Drug Task Force.

Ross A. Kopiske, 22, Larsen, pleaded no contest July 17 to one count of manufacture or delivery of marijuana. Kopiske was placed July 30 on 18 months probation, including 60 days in jail, paying $618 in costs, and repaying the drug task force.

Peter A. Wycklendt, 21, Waukesha, was placed on two years probation July 30 after he pleaded no contest to one count of manufacture or delivery of marijuana, with the other two manufacture or delivery charges dismissed but read into the record. Wycklendt’s probation term includes 60 days in jail, $848 in court costs, repaying the drug task force and random drug testing.

Troy J. Frederick, 20, Eau Claire, was placed on two years probation after he pleaded no contest July 31 to one count of manufacture or delivery of marijuana, with two other counts dismissed but read into the record.

Frederick’s probation term also includes 60 days in jail, paying $798 in court costs, paying the money for the drug purchase to the drug task force, and undergoing random drug testing.

Jared A. Otto, 20, Brookfield, was placed on two years probation after he pleaded no contest Aug. 1 to one count of manufacture or delivery of marijuana. The other two counts were dismissed. Otto’s probation term includes 60 days in jail, $508 in court costs, repaying the buy money to the drug task force, and random drug testing.

Craig A. Wilson, 21, Madison, pleaded guilty Monday to one count of manufacture or delivery of marijuana, with the other two counts dismissed but read in. Wilson was placed on two years probation, including 60 days in jail, $968 in court costs, repaying the buy money, and random drug testing.

The convictions of DePons, Frederick, Kopiske, Wycklendt, Otto and Wilson can be expunged from state records if they successfully complete probation.

Ian D. Erickson, 21, 1460 Cody Parkway #1, pleaded no contest July 31 to one count of possession of marijuana. Charges of manufacture or delivery of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia were dismissed. Erickson was fined $914.50.

A plea and sentencing hearing was scheduled this week for Ashley K. Kloss, 22, 480 Irene St., on one count of possession of marijuana and four counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors.

A plea and sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 15 for Daniel Jz Panella, 22, Oconomowoc, on a manufacture or delivery charge and a charge of possession with intent to deliver marijuana.

Michael G. Sahs, 22, Winfield, Ill., is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 21 after he pleaded no contest July 17 to one count to manufacture or delivery of THC. The other two counts Sahs faced were dismissed but read into the court record.

A plea and sentencing hearing also has been scheduled for Aug. 22 for Nicholas R. Rosenthal, 21, Galena, on one count of manufacture or delivery of cocaine.

The other defendants still are on track to go to trial on their charges.

Trial is set for this week for Ryan Bailey Whitehead, 21, New Glarus, on four counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and one count each of possession of amphetamines or LSD, possession of an illegally prescribed prescription, and possession of marijuana.

Trial is set for the week of Aug. 28 for Gregory J. Becker, 22, Hales Corners, on three counts of manufacture or delivery of marijuana. A status conference is set for Tuesday morning.

Trial is set for Sept. 11 for Natalie Rose Costello-Mikecz, 21, Milwaukee, on two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of possession of amphetamines or LSD, with a status conference Aug. 29.
Trial is scheduled to be held the week of Sept. 25 for Kamal T. Abdelrahim, 22, Milwaukee, on one count of manufacture or delivery of marijuana. The status conference is set for Aug. 27.

A jury trial is scheduled for the week of Sept. 25 for Andrew J. Fells, 24, Milwaukee, on one count of manufacture or delivery of marijuana. The status conference is set for Sept. 11.

Trial is set for Sept. 25 for Ryan L. Schlosser, 22, Skokie, Ill., on one count of manufacture or delivery of marijuana, with a status conference Sept. 11.

The arrests are the result of a 10-month-long investigation by the Richland–Iowa–Grant Drug Task Force that included drug sales to undercover officers between June 2011 and April 11.

The raids and arrests were conducted by Platteville, Dodgeville and Richland Center police; UW–Platteville police; the Grant, Iowa and Richland county sheriff’s departments; and the state Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation.
