Veterans Day programs scheduled

Veterans Day will be observed in the Platteville area beginning Thursday.

The Grant County Historical Society will present author Lance Herdegen on “Wisconsin and Lincoln’s Address at Gettysburg” in the Municipal Building auditorium today at 7 p.m.

Herdegen is the author of The Iron Brigade in Civil War and Memory: The Black Hats from Bull Run to Appomattox and Thereafter and Those Damned Black Hats! The Iron Brigade in the Gettysburg Campaign.

The suggested donation is $4.

Military personnel and veterans will be admitted free to two screenings during the Driftless Film Festival (see page 3A) at the Avalon Cinema in downtown Platteville — “The Pledge” Saturday at 11 a.m., and “Not Yet Begun to Fight” Monday at 7 p.m.

The Ken Kilian Classic Big Band will perform a Veterans Day show in the Municipal Building auditorium Sunday at 2 a.m. The performance is sponsored by Friends of the Auditorium.

On Veterans Day, programs will be held at Platteville Middle School at 8:15 a.m. and at Platteville High School at 10 a.m. The PMS and PHS bands will perform.

A Veterans Day program will be held at Potosi School Monday at 10 a.m. Members of VFW Post 5276 and American Legion Post 473 are asked to meet in the Potosi High School cafeteria at 9:30 a.m.
