The annual tradition continued as the Fennimore Fire Department once again sent members, as well as friends and family, to participate in this year’s 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Lambeau Field, Green Bay, on Saturday, Sept. 12.

In its 13th year, the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is a tribute to the 343 firefighters who gave their lives during the tragic events at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

This year’s stair climb carried more significance as 2026 marked the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Participants climb the equivalent of 110 stories—the fallen World Trade Center towers—on the steps of Lambeau Field.

Each climber is given a badge with the name and photograph of one of the fallen firefighters to symbolically complete the climb with one of the fallen.

At the equivalent of the 78th floor of the World Trade Center towers, which is the highest floor firefighters reached on 9/11, each climber rings the fire bell in honor of the fallen firefighter on their badge.

The stair climb is not a timed race, and participants can climb to any desired level.

Fennimore Fire Department 2nd Assistant Chief Todd Lippert stated, “We’re glad to have our group keep expanding and including the younger generations. Sharing the names, the faces, and the stories with them is how we make sure they are never forgotten. We also thank the Lions Club for their continued support of our fund raising.”

The Fennimore participants were just a few of the thousands who took part in this year’s stair climb. Organizers announced that throughout the 14 years of hosting the climbs, they have surpassed $1 million in donations. All proceeds from the event benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
