The National Weather Service has issued a Particularly Dangerous Situation Tornado Watch for Grant, Crawford, Vernon, Richland, Iowa and Lafayette counties until 9 p.m.

A PDS Tornado Watch includes, according to the NWS Storm Prediction Center, "several intense tornadoes likely," "several significant damaging wind gusts to 80 mph possible," and "several very large hail events to 3 inches in diameter are possible."

The SPC said that "potentially explosive thunderstorm development is possible over the next few hours" in and near the watch area, which extends from just south of La Crosse to the Quad Cities eastward between Madison and Milwaukee. All of northeast Iowa and northwestern Illinois are included in the tornado watch.
