CRAWFORD COUNTY - Crawford County Highway Department employee Todd Salmon was honored by the Crawford County Board at their meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 17. Salmon was involved in the extrication and rescue of Wyatt Mickelson, 18, Gays Mills, after a severe crash on Highway 171 on November 18 left the youth seriously injured.
The resolution honoring Mickelson was delivered by Crawford County Highway Commissioner Kyle Kozelka. Mickelson and his grateful mother, Irene Mickelson, were present for the award.
The resolution read:
RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND ACKNOWLEDGING TODD SALMON FOR HIS EMERGENCY RESPONSE EFFORTS AT THE SCENE OF A VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON NOVEMBER 18, 2019
WHEREAS, the Crawford County Highway Department responds to hazardous and emergency situations throughout the County; and,
WHEREAS, Todd Salmon is a highway patrolman for the Crawford County Highway Department; and,
WHEREAS, on November 18th, 2019, Todd was performing his regular job duties for the highway department, when he came across a one-vehicle accident on State Highway171; and,
WHEREAS, the driver of said vehicle was injured and entrapped inside the vehicle; and
WHEREAS, Todd took the initiative and obligation to respond to this emergency situation by reporting the accident, and wading across a flowing stream in order to reach the vehicle and attend to the injured driver; and,
WHEREAS, Todd attended to and assisted in extricating the injured driver, as well as assisting the responding emergency medical crews, once they arrived on site.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Crawford County Board of Supervisors do hereby commend, and publicly acknowledge, the emergency response efforts of Todd Salmon on November 18th, 2019; as well as recognize the Highway Department, and its crew, as an emergency response department.
