Vehicle goes off road, catches fire in Christiana

A 50-year-old Cashton man was uninjured early March 1 after his vehicle went out of control and caught fire in Christiana township.

According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office in Viroqua,  Philip Leis was driving on Hwy. 27 south of Cashton at 1:40 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle.

It went across the highway and came to rest in a field along the west side of the road.

A fire broke out in the vehicle during the crash, but Leis was able to exit safely and was uninjured.

Assisting at the scene were the Westby Fire Department, Westby Police Department, Cashton Police Department and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.

The accident remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.
