Sophomore Becca Hoyer and the top-ranked Platteville Hillmen will travel to Dodgeville Friday night for a battle of first-place teams in the Southwest Wisconsin Conference.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Platteville (9–1, 3–0, #1 in Division 3) at Dodgeville (9–1, 3–0), Friday, 8:15 p.m.

     Top-ranked Platteville will face it’s toughest test in over a month when the Hillmen travel to Dodgeville Friday night for a first-place showdown and this week’s McDonald’s SWNews4U.com Game of the Week.

     Platteville has won nine straight games since a season-opening loss at Dubuque Hempstead in mid-November. Since then the Hillmen have outscored each of their opponents by at least 21 points in all nine wins and by an average of 30.8 points during the winning streak. Sophomore center Sami Martin, who is already drawing college interest is averaging 15.9 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.7 steals — all team highs — while shooting a team-high 67.1 percent from the field (53 of 79). Senior Skye Digman averages 13.7 points and 6.0 rebounds, while sophomore guard Becca Hoyer averaged 12 points and 2.4 steals per game. Sophomore point guard Josie Nies averages 9.3 points and a team-high 3.8 assists per game.

     Dodgeville senior guard Hannah Jones, who has committed to NCAA Division II Sioux Falls, is averaging a conference-best 22.1 points per game, 8.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per contest. Freshman Olivia Argall is second on the team at 14.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game and fellow freshman Jojo Heimeri averages 10.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.

     The Cubans were ranked in the top-10 in Division 4 before a 41–37 loss Shullsburg in the championship game of the Cuba City Holiday Tournament on Dec. 28, but are back on track and stayed unbeaten in league play after a blowout win over Iowa–Grant Thursday night. Darlington is also still undefeated in the SWAL after a 79–53 win over Boscobel Thursday night.
