Pairings set for first round of Church League playoffs

Crossroads Youth Ministry posted its 11th win in 12 games in Church Slow Pitch League action Tuesday night.

Crossroads crushed West Lima/Park Street Christian, 18-3. Fred Jones homered for Crossroads while Dave Frank had a three-run shot for WL/PSC.

Hidden Valley Community and Church of the Nazarene I each one to share second place. HVC thumped Richland Center Fellowship, 10-2, with seven runs in the seventh. Nate Stemke powered HVC with a homer while Christian Eernissee’s catch triggered a double play.

Nazarene I outscored Grand View Family Worship, 14-3. Dave Hinrichs had three hits and Dan Banker doubled twice.

Church of the Nazarene II downed Free Methodist/Park Street Christian, 13-7, behind Jim Schweitzer’s clutch pitching. Ross Ghastin had four hits including a homer and six rbis. Tom Judson added three hits while John Schweitzer doubled and tripled.

St. Mary’s KCs edged Boscobel Assembly of God, 9-7. Pat Elliott and Paul Peckham each had three hits to back John Paul Peckham’s pitching.

Final standings: Crossroads 11-1, Hidden Valley Community 9-3, Nazarene I 9-3, Nazarene II 8-4, Richland Center Fellowship 7-5, Assembly of God 7-5, St. Mary’s KC 5-7, West Lima/Park Street 3-9, Grand View Family Worship 1-11, Free Methodist/Peace UM 0-12.

The Church League playoffs will start Tuesday night, Aug. 4, in two divisions. The tournaments will be double elimination, and the finals are set for Aug. 13. Four games are scheduled. Top seeded Crossroads and second seeded HVC will be idle. 

A Division games will be played on the east diamond. At 8 p.m., RC Fellowship will face Nazarene II, and at 9, Nazarene I will meet Boscobel Assembly of God.

 

B Division games will be played on the west diamond. At 8, St. Mary’s KC will face Free Methodist/Peace UM, and at 9, West Lima/Park Street will battle Grand View Family Worship.
