High school girls softball players and teams in the area are underway this week with pre-season workouts.

Bruce Borchardt in Hillsboro, Andy Gesteland in Reedsburg, Josh Board at Royall and Tracy Anderson in Necedah are among the new head coaches this spring, joining holdovers such as Mary Friend in Mauston, Bryan Brom at Adams, Dale Gray in Wisconsin Dells, Steve Loew in New Lisbon and Dawn Ertel in Wonewoc.

Royall, New Lisbon and Hillsboro open the Scenic Bluffs Conference season on April 4.

Meanwhile, area high school track athletes were taking part in their first pre-season practices of the spring last week and for the first time in recent memory, they were doing work outdoors for the initial practices, taking advantage of the nice weather.

Heath Revels at Hillsboro is one new head coach in the area this spring.
Bill De Voe in Mauston, Mike Schoenfeld and Jim Wolstenholme at Adams, Troy Nelson at Wisconsin Dells, Phil Hasler and Katie Matthews in Reedsburg, Bryan Knudtson at Royall, Mark Horbinski at Necedah and Kelly Rueckheim at Wonewoc-Center are among the returning head track coaches this spring.

In the SBC, Necedah and Royall go to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on March 26, with New Lisbon kicking off in Marshfield March 31.
