WIOTA RUNNER Alex Abraham barrels through the Hollandale catcher to score a run during the Indians 7-4 win over the Rockies in a Home Talent League baseball game played at Wiota Park on Saturday, June 15.

WIOTA – Wiota used some clutch two-out hitting during a six-run third inning outburst to top the visiting Hollandale Rockies, 7-4, in a Western Section Home Talent League baseball game played at Wiota Park on Saturday, June 15.
The Indians (9-3 overall, 6-2 in SL) banged out seven hits in the third inning– all singles– including four consecutive base hits with two down that turned a slim 2-1 lead into a comfortable 7-1 advantage.
After shortstop Merrill Brunson drove in Nick Flannery to snap a 1-1 tie earlier in the inning, Tommy Meier began the two-out rally with a single that plated Kory Tuescher to make it 3-1. Jayson Haldiman and Alex Abraham followed with RBI-singles for the Indians, and Matt Keister drove both players in with a two-run single to extend the lead to 7-1.
That would be it for the scoring for Wiota, but it would be enough as the Rockies (1-7) trimmed the deficit to 7-4 after five innings and then were held scoreless by Flannery and the Indians over their final four at-bats.
Haldiman went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored for Wiota. Abraham also went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and a RBI, while starting pitcher Taylor Wiegel went 2-for-4 on the day.
Flannery (2-1) took over on the mound in the fifth and surrendered no runs on three hits and three walks with five Ks to pick up the win.
At Wiota, on Sunday, June 16, the Indians scored three runs in the third inning to grab an early 4-0 lead and then added two key insurance runs in the sixth to set down the Monroe Brewers, 6-4, in a Sunday League contest.
Kory Tuescher, Merrill Brunson and Brad Schliem all pounded out a pair of hits with a double to guide the Indians’ 11-hit attack, while Jayson Haldiman went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles for the hosts.
The Brewers answered Wiota’s three-run third with single runs in the fourth and fifth frames; and, after Wiota went up 6-2 in the sixth, the guests plate singles runs in the seventh and eighth stanzas to cut the gap to 6-4 but they could get no closer.
Jeff Solberg worked six and a third innings to post the win for Wiota, yielding three runs on 10 hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Justin Doyle finished up on the mound for the Indians, allowing a run on one hit and three walks with two Ks for the save.
At Wiota, on Thursday, June 13, the Indians improved their record to 3-1 in Night League play with a 10-4 win over the Hollandale Rockies.
Wiota heads to Shullsburg’s Badger Park to face newcomer Shullsburg/Benton in a Night League game on Thursday, June 13, starting at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, June 23, the Indians head to Argyle for a Sunday League contest, starting at 1 p.m.
