In three straight losses to open the season the Iowa-Grant varsity softball team struggled to score averaging just 2.7 runs per contest in losses to Lancaster, Southwestern and Barneveld.
     Last Thursday night at Cobb Park the Panther  bats finally came alive in a 17-0 victory over visiting Darlington.
     Senior catcher Alyssa Larsen went 2-for-4 and drove in four runs on a pair of two-run triples. Shortstop Sammie Simon went 2-for-3 and scored three runs and Kaci Myers added two hits in four at-bats and scored three runs.
     The Panthers ripped 14 hits and senior Tori Leix earned her first win of the season by allowing just one hit in three scoreless innings.
     Iowa-Grant (2-4, 1-3 SWAL) stayed hot on Friday night belting out 13 hits in a 17-6 league victory at Cuba City.
     Senior outfielder Kaylee Larsen went 3-for-5 and drove in four runs all in the Panthers 10-run first inning, one on an RBI single in her first at-bat and three on a bases-clearing triple that capped the rally.
     Simon went 4-for-5, with a double, two runs scored and two RBI, and Aylssa Larsen went 3-for-4 with a double, two triples and three RBI.
     Leix (2-4) picked up her second win allowing three earned runs on four hits in four innings. She struck out six and walked just one.
     Monday night the hard-hitting Panthers’ hot streak came to an end with an 11-1 loss to visiting Mineral Point.
