Lady Redbirds sweep a pair of SWAL foes

    DARLINGTON – The Darlington Redbirds volleyball team continues to fight its way up the SWAL standings, posting three-set sweeps over Fennimore and Boscobel last week to improve its season record to 8-2-2 overall and 3-1 in SWAL play.
    The Lady Redbirds opened the week at Fennimore on Tuesday, Sept. 13, and rolled over the Golden Eagles in straight sets.
    After beginning the night with a pair of 25-14 victories, the ‘Birds found themselves in a battle with the host Eagles in set three before scoring the final eight points of the game to pull out a 25-19 decision and secure the sweep.
    At Darlington, on Thursday, Sept. 15, the Redbirds hosted Boscobel in their home opener and took down the Bulldogs in straight sets, 25-17, 25-11, 25-18, for their second consecutive conference victory and their third sweep in SWAL play this season.
    Senior Taryn Rankin and junior Kennedy Rankin each floored 10 kills to lead the ‘Birds at the net. Senior Callie Norton served up six aces and junior Chelsie Golackson added four aces.
    The ‘Birds finished the night with a total of 17 service aces as a team.
     Darlington has a SWAL showdown with SWAL-leader Cuba City (4-0) on Thursday, Sept. 22, and the Redbirds return home to host Mineral Point (4-1) in another key SWAL contest on Tuesday, Sept. 27.
