WISCONSIN DELLS — Adam Brogley’s breakout game led the Platteville boys’ basketball team to a 70–39 non-conference victory over Chequamegon at JustAGame Fieldhouse Thursday.

The junior forward scored a career-high 20 points and grabbed six rebounds to help the Hillmen snap a four-game losing streak.

With the victory Platteville improved to 4–5 on the season.

“Adam really broke out and had a nice game for us,” said Platteville head coach Mike Huser. “He really has improved the last couple of games. He is finishing his opportunities around the basket and he is turning into a real nice post presence for us. The guys are finding him in good spots and he is scoring in bunches.”

Senior guard Nick Tashner added 14 points, two assists and two steals, while junior point guard Derek Schambow had eight points and six assists in his return to the lineup.

Schambow missed Platteville’s 67–47 loss to Dodgeville over two weeks on Dec. 11. That was the last game the Hillmen played.

“I was very proud of the kids and how they responded Thursday,” said Huser. “We had struggled for three or four weeks, but we really broke out of our shooting slump. We also had the flu go through the team for a two-week stretch, but we are finally getting healthy.”

Platteville shot 56.3 percent (18 of 45), including 6 of 12 from 3-point land.

Tashner splashed three triples, while Schambow, and senior Josh Bernhardt and Kevin Wruble each knocked one down from long range.

On defense Huser’s boys held  Chequamegon, which was formerly Park Falls High School, to just 40 percent (18 of 45) from the field.

The Hillmen will return to action Friday when they host winless Lancaster (0–7) in a Southwest Wisconsin Conference game at Platteville High School. They will then host undefeated Cuba City (9–0, ranked number 3 in Division 3) on Monday.
