LANCASTER - The Lancaster girls’ golf team has been very busy in recent weeks, and have already competed in four meets before school even starts.
Under first-year head coach Andy Richard, this year’s team is without any returners from last year’s top five, as Shannon Farrey, Leslie Larsen, Katie Landon, Danielle Hentrich and Sara McNamara all graduated.
This year’s squad has only five members that include juniors Ashley Adams, Lilly Martin and Ella Marcue, along with sophomores Kayla Bower and Becky Mumm.
Last Wednesday, the Arrows competed at the Portage Invite, where they finished 14th of 16 teams with a score of 481.
On the par-72 course, Marcue led the way with a 101, while Adams finished at 107, Mumm at 128 and Bower at 145.
In their two most recent events, the Lancaster team has not been able to put together a team score, as only three members have been able to golf.
At last Friday’s Prairie du Chien Invite, Adams shot a 104, Marcue a 107 and Mumm a 124 on the par 72 Prairie du Chien Golf Course.
This past Monday evening at the par-35 Darlington Golf Course, Adams shot a 50, Marcue a 51 and Mumm a 64.
The Flying Arrow golf team will next be in action on Tuesday, Sept. 6, when they go back to Prairie du Chien. They will then host their first meet of the year on Thursday, Sept. 8 when Darlington-Cuba City and Southwestern come to town.
