Senior Lexi Budden steals second base during Thursdays 111 win over Prairie du Chien.

CUBA CITY — The hot-hitting Platteville softball team remained unbeaten with an 11–7 non-conference victory at Cuba City Friday afternoon.

The Hillmen improved to 9–0 on the season under first-year head coach Becca Lowe.
Platteville’s potent lineup once again led the way, belting out 13 hits, including six that went for extra bases.

Cuba City held the Hillmen scoreless through two innings, but senior third baseman Sierra Brecke roped a two-run double to spark a five-run rally. Junior KD Hoyer added and RBI single and freshman Kaycie Wagner scored on a throw to second base to give Platteville a 5–0 lead.

The Hillmen added single runs in the fourth and fifth, before adding four more in the sixth to extend their lead to 11–2. Brecke homered in the inning and finished 3-for-4 with five RBIs.

Freshman Amber Lancaster went 3-for-4 and Wagner had two hits and picked up the win with 31/3 innings of solid work before giving way to Brecke in the pitching circle. Wagner struck out six and only allowed one hit.

“I continue to be impressed with the girls’ ability to perform under pressure,” said Lowe. “They have a certain confidence when they step into the box where I know each one of them is going to get the job done. The team continues to fight throughout all seven innings which makes them a very competitive team.”

Last Thursday night, Hoyer scattered eight hits and allowed just one run in an 11–1 five-inning Southwest Wisconsin Conference victory over visiting Prairie du Chien.

Hoyer (6–0) struck out eight and didn’t allow a walk to earn her sixth win of the season.

“KD has done an amazing job so far this season,” said Lowe. “I can’t wait to see how well she will do throughout the rest of the season.”

Brecke went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs. Tashner went 2-for-4 and scored a pair of runs.

The Hillmen scored four runs in the second, six in the fourth and won the game via the 10-run rule when Abby Wein and Brecke hit back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Last Tuesday, Platteville piled up 22 hits in a 13–7 conference win at Lancaster. Wagner went 5-for-5 with three runs scored. Hoyer and Wein each went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and Tashner collected four hits, four runs scored, three stolen bases, two RBIs and a home run. Hoyer also homered in the win.
