WISCONSIN DELLS - Two members of the Lancaster varsity girls golf team advanced to play in this past Tuesday’s Division 2 Edgewood Sectional, but it’s not the two you might be expecting.

At last Tuesday’s D2 Wisconsin Dells Regional played at Trappers Turn, the Flying Arrows finished fifth of nine competing teams, and just missed a spot in the top four and the chance to compete as a team at the Edgewood Sectional.

The top four teams from the regional meet were Edgewood (332), McFarland (372), Prairie du Chien (398) and Wisconsin Dells (414), while the Arrows finished fifth with a team score of 427.

Going into last week’s regional meet, it was sophomore Alexis Galvan who had the team’s best 18-hole average of 92.7.

The team’s second-best nine-hole average belonged to fellow sophomore Heidi Marcue, at 107.3.

But it wasn’t Galvan and Marcue who extended their season by qualifying for the sectional meet, instead it was freshman Brandi Taylor and sophomore Brianna Marcue.

Taylor entered the regional meet with an 18-hole average of 112.0, but shot an impressive 97 at Trappers Turn in Wisconsin Dells to place 10th of 43 individuals.

Taylor carded a 50 on the front nine, then finished with a team-best 47 on the back, finishing as the only member of the Lancaster squad to shoot under 100.

Finishing 17th overall with a score of 104 was Brianna Marcue, who entered the regional meet with an 18-hole average of 109.3, but parred two holes on the front, and one on the back to earn a spot at the sectional meet.

Taylor and Marcue were among the top four individuals not on a sectional qualifying team, as were Lauren Splitter (100) and Cianna Kruckenberg (100) both of Edgerton.

Ending their 2013 golf season were Galvan, Heidi Marcue and Brooke Marcue.

Galvan finished the front nine with a score of 50, but then shot a 58 on the back to finish with a 108, which was more than 15 strokes over her season average.

Brooke Marcue finished the regional meet with a score of 118, which was 5.5 strokes over her 18-hole average of 112.5.

Despite recording the team’s only birdie on the day, Brooke finished with a 60 on the front and a 58 on the back.

Coming in with a round of 122 was Heidi Marcue, which was 24 strokes over her season average of 107.3.

Heidi struggled on the front with a 60, then shot a 62 on the back, taking a pair of nines on two par-fours.

Results from Tuesday’s sectional meet will be published in next week’s paper.
