WIAA Board votes to delay start date for fall sports
WIAA

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association, the governing body of high school sports in the state, is delaying the start of fall sports based on the level of contact and level of risk of being infected with coronavirus.

Practice for girls golf, cross country, girls tennis, and girls swimming and diving teams (all deemed lower risk sports) would begin practice on Aug. 17. Practice for football, boys soccer, and volleyball would begin the week Sept. 7. Football practice was scheduled to begin Aug. 4, with volleyball and boys soccer set to begin Aug. 17.

The measure passed on an 8–3 vote Thursday at the WIAA Board of Control's special business meeting  with all board members, WIAA staff & representatives from WIAA Sports Medical, the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association, Wisconsin School Boards and  the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

If districts opt not to participate in the 2020 fall sport season, a spring opportunity will be provided. Those details will be determined at a later date..
