Brent and Mary Jo Erickson of Erickson Funeral Home are pleased to announce that they have recently purchased Steil Camacho Funeral Home of Darlington.

After careful consideration, Cristina Camacho and her family have decided to pass the torch to Brent and Mary Jo, owners of Erickson Funeral Home of Darlington.   Both families feel that this transition is necessary and beneficial for a successful, healthy business to exist in the Darlington community going forward.

Brent Erickson and his staff want the community to know that they will continue to provide the caring service Darlington families have come to expect from the Camacho family over the past several years.  Mr. Erickson would like to assure everyone that they can call anytime with questions about their funeral pre-arrangements or funding. He is looking forward to working with you and to continue to serve you in the tradition that you are accustomed.

Camacho says, “While the decision to sell our funeral home was very difficult and comes with a degree of sadness for our family, I find comfort in the belief that when you grow up a Redbird, you are always a Redbird.  My family and I will continue to be a part of the Darlington community and hope you will embrace us simply as friends and understand why we felt this choice was best for our families and our community moving forward.”

Steil Camacho Funeral Home has been in existence in Darlington since 1904 when it began as Steil Furniture & Undertaking on Main Street in Darlington. The business was sold by Ike & June Steil to Diego & Judy Camacho, Jr. in 1983 and was most recently purchased by Diego’s daughter, Cristina, in 2008. 

Erickson Funeral Home’s Darlington history includes the Nelson and Sharer Funeral Homes going back to the 1930’s, when Mr. Nelson converted Erickson’s current location into the first dedicated free-standing funeral home building this side of Janesville. Brent Erickson is a third generation funeral director and purchased his funeral home from his parents, Doral & Doris, in 1990. Erickson Funeral Home also serves families through funeral home locations in Shullsburg and Argyle.
