Platteville has been named one of the Midwest’s best places to start a small business, according to a human resources blog.

Talent Tribune ranked Platteville tied for seventh, with Tiffin, Ohio, in its comparison, based on U.S. Census Bureau data in net small business growth, net small business employee growth, and the percentage of businesses that employ fewer than 20 employees.

Talent Tribune said 72 percent of Platteville businesses “are small , keeping up the town’s tradition as a trading post.” It noted UW–Platteville and the Main Street Program, “which focuses on revitalizing the downtown area by ‘pioneering the good life.’”

Platteville was the second ranked Wisconsin city behind Monroe, which ranked second. Hays, Kan., was first; with Centralia, Ill., third; Fergus Falls, Minn, fourth; Owosso, Mich., fifth; Kearney, Neb., sixth; Vermillion, S.D., ninth; and Dickinson, N.D., 10th.
