A trial on two traffic citations issued after a head-on crash in which an Illinois man died Sept. 18 was avoided by a no-contest plea.

Liza Kay Johnson, 18, Potosi, pleaded no contest in Grant County Circuit Court March 16 to a operating left of center citation. A citation for texting while driving was dismissed.

Johnson was fined $213.10, according to court records.

Johnson was driving north on Wisconsin 133 Sept. 18 around 5:30 p.m. when her car collided with a tractor–trailer driven by Carlos F. Martinez, 44, Aurora, Ill., one-half mile north of Clauer Lane. Martinez’s semi caught fire after the crash.

Martinez died at UW Hospital in Madison, where he was airlifted by Med Flight helicopter after the crash.
