A trial on two traffic citations issued after a head-on crash in which an Illinois man died Sept. 18 is scheduled for April 1.

Liza Kay Johnson, 17, Potosi, entered not guilty pleas to citations for texting while driving and operating left of center before her scheduled appearance in Grant County Circuit Court in Lancaster Dec. 29.

Johnson was driving north on Wisconsin 133 Sept. 18 around 5:30 p.m. when her car collided with a tractor–trailer driven by Carlos F. Martinez, 44, Aurora, Ill., one-half mile north of Clauer Lane. Martinez’s semi caught fire after the crash.

Martinez died at UW Hospital in Madison, where he was airlifted by Med Flight helicopter after the crash.

The trial is scheduled for April 1 at 3 p.m. before Circuit Judge Robert VanDeHey.
