Youth dies in gun accident

A young man from rural Cassville died as the result of what the Grant County Sheriff's Office is initially calling an accidental shooting.

On July 20, 2015 at approximately 9:07 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an individual who had been shot at a residence located in the Township of Cassville.  Upon arrival it was discovered that Jared Winkers, age 17, was deceased.  Jared and several of his friends were shooting targets at his residence with various types of weapons including long guns and pistols.  It was reported that there was an accidental discharge from a weapon that Dillon Vogt, age 19 also from Cassville, was holding.  Jared was fatally wounded as a result of this accidental discharge.

At present the incident all indications are pointing towards a tragic accident, but as with any investigation, this case remains open and under investigation pending autopsy results and further analysis of evidence gathered from the scene.
