The School Board of the Fennimore Community School District held a brief meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 7, where the 2027 mill and tax levy rates were set for approval at the board’s annual meeting later this month.
The mill rate which is the amount of tax payable per dollar of the assessed value of a property, will drop for the sixth year in row, coming in at $6.72, down from 2026’s $7.07.
The tax levy rate, the taxable amount levied on all taxable property in the school district, will a 2.3 percent increase for 2027.
The board also announced that the “physical student head count” for the district this school year is at 768, up slightly from 2025-26’s 761.
One hiring and one resignation were approved at last Wednesday’s meeting. Anna Bonilla was hired as a paraprofessional, while Jessica Herold resigned as a dishwasher/server.
In other school district news, it was recently announced that 61 percent of Fennimore High School’s Class of 2026 earned an industry-recognized certification.
36 of last year’s 59 graduates left Fennimore High School with not only a diploma, but they also earned credentials that demonstrate real-world, career-ready skills.
Students earned certifications in areas including:
- Microsoft Office Specialist
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- Snap-on/Starrett Precision Measuring Instruments (PMI)
- ASE Automotive Service Excellence
These certifications give students the opportunity to prove the skills they’ve developed, strengthen their resumes, and enter college, technical education, or the workforce with credentials already in hand.
The 2026 Annual Fennimore Community School Board Meeting will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the regular monthly board meeting, on Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the cafeteria of Fennimore Elementary School.
