CRAWFORD COUNTY - The Crawford County Land Conservation Department and Natural Resources Conservation Service are sponsoring a farm meeting on growing cover crop seed.  This meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 23 in Gays Mills.  Pre-registration is required to reserve lunch and handout materials.

After several years of low commodity prices all farmers are trying to find ways of reducing input costs.  This meeting will provide information for farmers who would like to grow their own cover crop seed.  Presentations will review management practices that maximize yield and quality of seed production and answer questions from farmers who would like to grow their own seed.

Presentations will include cover crops as a long-term management practice, growing small grains, management for seed production, cost of seed production, and the experience of a grower who produces and sells cover crop seed.

The meeting will conclude with a review of the Crawford County air fly-over cover crop program, how participation has expanded and plans for the coming season. This will be an opportunity to get your questions answered on how the program works and how to participate in future enrollment.

The meeting will be held in the Community Commerce Center in Gays Mills located at 16391 State Highway 131.  The meeting begins with sign-in at 9:30 a.m. and presentations starting at 10 a.m.  Lunch is sponsored by the Crawford County Land Conservation Department. Register to attend this meeting by calling the Crawford County LCD Office at 608-326-0270 by Friday, Jan. 19.
