Despite all the unseasonably warm weather, the days are getting shorter, the leaves are drifting down through the air, and it’s getting to be time to kick off the fall holidays with everyone’s favorite - Halloween. Halloween falls on Friday, Oct. 31 this year, but events on other dates are already popping up in the local calendars.

• Saturday, Oct. 18: North Crawford Fall Fest runs from 5-7 p.m., and will offer food, Trick-or-Trunk, a Haunted Trail, and games. Food pantry donations will be accepted. Trick-or-Trunk will be held from 5 to 6 p.m., and all other events will run from 5 to 7 p.m.

• Saturday, Oct. 18: Vernon County 4-H will offer ‘Halloween Hide-and-Seek,’ beginning at 5:30 p.m., at the Wild West Day Grounds. The event will offer Trunk-or-Treat, Hide-and-Seek, a Costume Contest, and concessions in the  Wild Rose Café. The event will be ticketed, and all proceeds will go toward paying off school lunch fund debt, the K-9 Unit, and the Trauma Task Force.

• Saturday, Oct. 25: La Riviere Park in Prairie du Chien, 62048 Vineyard Coulee Road, will offer their annual Haunted Hike, featuring virus-infected zombies, menacing monsters and shadow stalkers. The ‘Not so Scary’ hike will take place from 3-5 p.m., and the ‘Very Scary’ hike will run from 6-8 p.m. A minimum donation will be asked, with kids three-and-under hiking for free.

• Saturday, Oct. 25: Riverdale FFA will offer a Haunted Walk from 6:30-8 p.m., at 18491 Old County P, in rural Muscoda at the Riverdale School Farm. An entry fee will be charged.

Friday, Oct. 31

• Village of Gays Mills Trick-or-Treat hours are 4-7 p.m.

• Village of Soldiers Grove Trick-or-Treat hours are 4-7 p.m.

• Village of Readstown will offer a Halloween Party and Trunk-or-Treat at Readstown’s Tourist Park from 4-6 p.m. Hot dogs, beans, chips and goodies will be available, and there will be crafts, games, and a costume judging at 6 p.m.

• Village of De Soto will offer a Community Halloween Party from 4:30-8 p.m. at the De Soto Community Center. Highlights include food, fun, games, prizes and a costume contest at 7:30 p.m. Free will donations are appreciated.

• City of Viroqua will offer a Viroqua Chamber Trick-or-Treat from 3-5 p.m. at the Vernon County Fairgrounds, and residential Trick-or-Treat will begin around 5 p.m.

• Friends of Gays Mills will host a Spooktacular Halloween Party from 5-8 p.m. at the Community Commerce Center, 16381 Highway 131. Highlights of the event will include food, music, dancing, balloons, a spooky tunnel, laughter, friends and crafts.

• Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Soldiers Grove will offer a Trunk & Treat from 4-6 p.m. at 303 Church Street.

• Eagle Cave, between Blue River and Muscoda off Highway 60 will offer the Haunted Cave on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, from 7-11 p.m. The Cave is located at 16320 Cavern Lane, Blue River. There will be a charge to enter.

• McCormick’s Bar & Grill in Rolling Ground, and Dante’s and Halver’s Town Tap in Gays Mills will offer a ‘Halloween Creepy Crawl,’ with costume judging at Rolling Ground at 9 p.m., Dante’s at 10 p.m., and Halver’s Town Tap at 11 p.m. Dante’s will offer karaoke and music from The Hammond Experience starting at 8 p.m. Halver’s Town Tap will offer music by Anne Christopher from 8-12 p.m.
